The Story of "Root Furniture."

This hand made root furniture can be used indoors or outdoors.

If left outside in the elements, the Banan oil (similar to teak oil) will slowly wash off the furniture, and the furniture will into an equally beautiful "driftwood" state.

To keep theThis existing golden color, you only need apply teak oil to the product 3-4 times per year depending on the extent of the exposure.

   The vines, called "Root Wood" or "Gold Wood" are harvested 3-4 times per year in the northern mountains of mianland China. The wood is very dense in nature, so it is soaked in water for up to 6 months until it is pliable. Then the outside bark is removed by hand, the roots bent into the shape of firniture, and left out to dry.

    The seating is made from seasoned elm planks from local villager's front doors, which may be up to several decades old. The holes in the Elm planks are where the door's hardware was attached to the villager's homes. The reason for using seasoned Elm planks is so that the furniture can be placed outdoors and not be affected by the elements.

    Lastly, the furniture is hand rubbed with Banan oil.

    Each piece of Root Furniture is unique as it is hand created. No two pieces are exactlt the same. We can try to acquire pieces that are similar, if you request it. Keep in mind, however, that these pieces are very hard to come by so don't be overly disappointed if a requested piece is unavailable.
